Auto-ID rarely fails at the device. It fails at the joins — between the label and the process it has to survive, between the scanner and the system meant to receive the read, between the hardware supplier and whoever was supposed to make it all work together.

Barcode & Labelling

Label design, encoding and printing chosen for the environment the label has to survive.

A label is a materials problem before it is a data problem. Ribbon, media and symbology are selected against what the label will actually go through — heat, wash-down, solvent, abrasion, months outdoors. Get that wrong and the read-rate failure does not appear at commissioning; it appears three months later, at your customer’s site.

Catching the barcodes that didn’t match

The product carries three barcodes, applied to different faces at separate stages of assembly. All three are meant to hold the same value — but manual error meant that sometimes they did not, and the mismatch was only discovered downstream.

2MB deployed three fixed barcode scanners integrated with middleware that reads all three simultaneously and validates that the values agree. On any mismatch the system triggers an alarm and indicator light and stops the production line, with a manual override so authorised personnel can resume after verification.

Outcome: Mismatched barcodes caught at the station instead of at the customer.

Before You Call

Our read rates have dropped. Can you find out why?
Usually, yes. It is most often one of four things — label or ribbon changed, print head worn, scanner position moved, or line speed increased since commissioning. We check the whole chain rather than replacing the scanner and hoping.
Will the labels survive our process?
That is decided at design stage, not after. Tell us what the label goes through — temperature, chemicals, abrasion, time outdoors — and we specify media and ribbon against it. Where the environment is unusual we test before committing to a spec.
Can we keep our existing scanners and printers?
Often yes. If the hardware is sound and the problem sits in the integration or the label spec, replacing devices is the expensive way to fix the wrong thing. We will tell you when equipment genuinely needs replacing.
Do you supply the software as well as the devices?
Yes — the middleware, the validation logic and the integration into your MES or WMS are built by the same team that specifies the hardware. That join is the part most projects get wrong.
Can a failed scan stop the line?
Yes, and we have built exactly that. A mismatch or a failed read can trigger an alarm, an indicator light and a line stop, with a controlled manual override for authorised personnel. Whether that is appropriate depends on your process — we will discuss where the interlock should sit.
What support is there after installation?
AMC covering devices and integration together, with spares, consumables and on-site repair. Our field team works across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka from four offices, and support runs through a ticketed portal so response is tracked rather than remembered.
